I chose this one after browsing many different websites, mainly because they provide a microbial testing certificate — which really helped me understand and evaluate the product before buying.
It was my first time to culture kefir at home. I received two larger kefir grains along with several smaller ones. It felt like the actual weight was more than 5 grams.
I’ve now been culturing them for about two weeks, and it’s been a fascinating experience. Their appearance changes from day to day, and the flavor and aroma keep evolving as well.
In the early stage, the kefir was quite alcoholic — I only tried a small amount and immediately felt slightly tipsy. After that, I experimented a bit to help rebalance the yeast and lactic acid bacteria. Now the acidity has started to come back.
I’m not sure what the “perfect” stage will eventually taste like, but I already know it’s completely different from store-bought kefir. Commercial products feel much more processed, while feeding and growing your own kefir gives you something far more alive and dynamic.

Would make a wonderful gift. But I had bought it for myself to use and I am super happy with it. It's so beautiful and easy to use. I chose the San Francisco starter but I had bought the Paris last year and they are both doing well. I had purchased from other places before. And the starter never survived after 3 months. The Paris one is now over a year old and it looks like the San Francisco will too. There is nothing better than making and baking your own sourdough. The fragrance of fresh bread. Sourdough Starter - 106+ Year Old French Origin
Seeking advice to get the perfect thick consistency
I’m on my second pack of these grains and would appreciate some expert advice. I've tried using both full cream milk and raw milk from an organic shop. My first batch turned to whey and curd very quickly (24 hours). With this second batch, I used about 300ml of milk for the 6g of grains.
I always strain the grains out and store the finished kefir in an airtight jar in the fridge. However, after a few days, it separated, tasted sweet initially, and has now become bitter and unpleasant.
I have two specific questions for the seller:
1. How do I stop the kefir from turning bitter and separating so quickly in the fridge? I am aiming for that thick, tangy consistency similar to the one sold at Coles.
2. How do I clearly recognize the grains to separate them for the next batch? Sometimes it's hard to tell what is a grain and what is just a thick curd.

Rrally happy with my purchase of the kefir gains. They were delivered fresh and active. I have been fermenting kefir and am so impressed with the result. The kefir was sour and acidic and after I left it in the fridge for a couple of days it became more acidic and crisp. Really impressed.

I am new to baking and live starters. I am not sure if this starter constitues as a good starter. However, I was able to bake bread and on my 4th attempt the bread came out very well. I had some issues earlier because the starter did not look 'alive' like they do on socialmedia.
