I have never made sourdough anything before so this was a bit of a whim buying a starter

I have never made sourdough anything before so this was a bit of a whim buying a starter. I have now made 3 loaves and a batch of rolls which have all turned out brilliantly. All looked and tasted delicious. As we are only 2 in our household the rolls are definitely a more flexible option as I can make a batch and just cook a few at a time as we need them although a loaf works ok too just slice and keep in the freezer. No problems at all with the starter just follow the instructions and off you go.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It’s awesome to hear that your first few loaves and rolls have turned out brilliantly — that’s exactly the kind of success we love to see. Rolls are such a great idea for a smaller household, and freezing sliced bread is definitely a smart way to avoid waste.

Glad the starter is working well for you. Keep enjoying the baking journey — sourdough really is such a rewarding craft!

If you ever have any questions or want recipe tips, just let me know.

Happy baking!

The starter sprang into life really quickly. I follwed the advice on this sight and put it in the oven with just the light on for the prescribed amount of time. It rose, I discarded and I’m onto the second round before preparing to make bread. I have great hopes of having a perfect sourdough loaf.

Hi Bronwyn,

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re so glad to hear your starter came to life quickly and that our tips helped get you off to a strong start. It sounds like you’re well on your way to a beautiful loaf — we’d love to hear how your first bake turns out!

Happy baking,

Great starter

Great starter. I was new to using starter so was feeling a bit defeated when it didn't rise much at first. I had better luck when I put it in the oven with just the light on, but after about a week, it seemed to get much stronger and I then found that it didn't need the extra warmth of the oven. Now makes great sourdough bread.

Hi Zoe,

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re thrilled to hear your starter found its rhythm — it’s totally normal for it to take a little time to settle in, especially in cooler weather. Great thinking with the oven light trick — it’s a classic move!

We’re so glad it’s now thriving and turning out delicious loaves. If you ever need tips or run into any questions along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Happy baking!

The only starter I’ll ever buy!

The only starter I’ll ever buy! I had my first one from the fermentation station for 2 years but during the recent floods it died. I just received my new one and I’m already back to making perfect loaves every time!

Hi Jess,

Thank you so much for your kind words — it means the world to hear that our starter is the only one you’ll ever buy! We’re so sorry to hear about the loss of your original one during the floods, but we’re thrilled to know your new one has settled in and you’re already back to baking beautiful loaves.

Happy baking — and if you ever need anything, we’re always here to help.

Warmly,
Sandy
